A few helpful hints about safe and responsible IT disposal
The legislation and procedures for safe and secure IT disposal can be complicated, so Circuit have compiled a simple checklist of the minimum requirements needed each time you request the removal of your IT equipment.
- Make sure there is a Waste Carrier License
- Make sure there is a Waste Management License
- Have you seen a Hazardous Waste Consignment Note?
- An Asset Report isn’t compulsory, but will help
- A Data Erasure Certificate will confirm the security of your data has been dealt with properly
Don’t worry, because Circuit will always ensure the above is done for you.
Circuit can also make sure you have a Premises Code
A Premises Code is a license issued by the Environment Agency and it provides you with permission to dispose of unused IT equipment for a period of 12 months. This is needed because the removal of IT equipment from your site by an IT disposal company is illegal if you don’t own a Premises Code.
The cost is £18 per site and you can register with the Environment Agency here.
Alternatively Circuit can do this for you at a cost of £18 plus a £2 admin fee.
A Premises Code is not needed if your company is disposing of less than 200kg of hazardous waste within a 12-month period. For more information on what constitutes hazardous waste, you can follow the link below.
